Rolling or Sliding Gates
The "Slider" sideways track system is used when it is not possible to close a set of gates or gate in a conventional swing way, as for example when cars need to park close to the gates. This system allows the gate(s) to slide along a simple track sideways. This is a simple mechanism that works on the rack and pinion principle.
The gate is fitted with wheels and mounted onto a 16mm track.
Archways - A post is positioned inside the property so that the gate can move between the post and another post or wall. Post and post/wall is fitted with guide rollers to both sides of the gate.
Flat top gates - The existing wall or post is fitted with an upper guide, which will hold the gate in position.
1 off Small post with rubber bump stop about 1 ft high is positioned at the end of the extended track and act as a stopper when the gate was opened. This could be fitted with photocells if required (see below).
The "Slider" system is supplied with one set of photocells which will stop the gate should an obstacle cross the beam. These cells would be situated on one side of the entrance opening. The other side of the opening can also be fitted with an additional set of photocells, so that both sides of the opening is protected.
The gate should also be fitted with flashing lights.
Most sliding systems use a single gate, but two gates can be used in which case two motors will be required.
Points to consider:
- Maximises drive space and can be used where swing opening is not possible.
- The most secure system, as the gate is held in position on a track.
- Has to have room at the side of the drive to slide open.
- The motor effectively holds the gates in position once closed, therefore, no electric locks are essential, though are recommended for better security.
- Not recommended for properties with small children without additional safety equipment.
